Beautiful Plus Size Vintage 1940’s Marmot Fur Coat

Marmots are large squirrels in the genus Marmota, of which there are 15 species. Those most often referred to as marmots tend to live in mountainous areas, such as the Alps, northern Apennines, Eurasian steppes, Carpathians, Tatras, and Pyrenees in Europe and northwestern Asia; the Rocky Mountains, Black Hills, Cascades, Pacific Ranges, and Sierra Nevada in North America; and the Deosai Plateau in Pakistan and Ladakh in India. The groundhog, however, is also sometimes called a marmot, while the similarly sized, but more social, prairie dog is not classified in the genus Marmota but in the related genus Cynomys.
Marmots typically live in burrows (often within rockpiles, particularly in the case of the yellow-bellied marmot), and hibernate there through the winter. Most marmots are highly social and use loud whistles to communicate with one another, especially when alarmed.

Here are the details for this magnificent vintage Marmot coat:
* 2 clasps

* Slit pockets

* Beautiful lining with shoulder straps and armpit pads

* Deep cut sleeves for comfort

* Sleeves cuffed with sleeve lining elasticized for warmth.

* Fur worn off small area of edge of opening of coat (not visible when coat is closed and inconspicuous when coat is open due to dark stripe in fur). See photos.

* Gorgeous rust color

* This is a vintage fur. A professional cleaning is recommended to remove musty storage odor.

* Use measurements for size as there is no size label. I believe this coat will possibly accommodate a range from Small to an Extra Large, but would likely fit larger sizes best. The model is Medium/Large. Adding 2" to your own measurements is a good way to determine if you have adequate space in a coat. You can also take measurements on a coat you currently own and like the fit.
